The Different Types of Leaf Blowers

If you have looked at the leaf blowers market recently, you know that there are hand-held, backpack and leaf blowers on wheels that you can choose from. What type of leaf blower should you buy?

The answer to this question depends primarily on two factors:

How many leaves to blow

The speed with which you want to complete the task

If you have a large yard with lots of leaves, you will need a more powerful leaf blower than a person with a small yard and few leaves.

When deciding which leaf blower to buy, keep in mind the volume of leaves and debris you will have to deal with.

Portable Leaf Blowers

Portable leaf blowers work for most of the people. They are light and easy to handle and store. Some portable leaf blowers, like the dewalt leaf blower, can vacuum leaves and remove dirt and debris from your driveway, porch or patio.

There are three different types of portable leaf blowers: corded blowers, cordless blowers and gasoline blowers.

Portable Electric Corded Blowers

They start easily and are lightweight; most weigh about eight pounds. Many models come with a suction accessory and do a good job of mulching the leaves. They’re relatively quiet.

However, the cord can cause you some grief; you are limited in scope because you have to stay a certain distance from an electrical socket, and it is easy to get tangled in the cord.

Electric Cordless blowers (powered by batteries)

These work on lithium-ion (Li-ion) or nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries. Li-ion batteries hold a charge longer and tend to be smaller and lighter, the leaf blower, weighing between eight and ten pounds.

The battery-powered leaf blowers can handle most of the courtyards, aisles and patios, but after 30 to 45 minutes you need to recharge the battery.

Portable petrol (thermal) blowers

They’re powerful and fast. They can absorb dense leaves, dirt and debris. The gasoline engine and tank add a little weight, which makes them weigh about 10 kilos. Two-stroke models require a special blend of oil and fuel that you can mix manually or purchase pre-mix in a home improvement store.

Although there are a few portable gasoline blowers with suction and Shredder accessories, they tend to be slow and less efficient than electric models. They are also noisy and require careful engine maintenance.

Backpack Leaf Blowers

Leaf blowers are powered by gasoline and weigh 13-25 kg. This type of blower works best in large yards with a large volume of leaves.

If you need an hour or more to clean your garden, a backpack leaf blower is probably a good choice for you.

Special care should be taken when using a backpack leaf blower. With the engine mounted on your back, it is closer to your ears, so hearing protection is extremely important.

Like other gasoline engines, these leaf blowers are noisy, but they can make the job too difficult for a portable model.

Leaf blowers on wheels

If you need a professional quality leaf blower, consider a gasoline-powered leaf blower.

These monsters do fast work of leaves, dirt and debris. They work best on large flat landscapes, as their weight of 100 pounds can be difficult to maneuver uphill.

Their four-stroke engines require no fuel mix.

But you will need to make sure you have enough storage space for these giants, as they can occupy six to eight square feet of space.

Conclusion

In conclusion, leaf blowers are versatile tools that will greatly simplify the task of clearing leaves and debris. Each type of leaf blower offers its own set of advantages and considerations.

The portable leaf blower provides convenience and maneuverability for smaller areas. Backpack blowers offer increased power and longer operating times for larger properties. For tackling extensive leaf cleanup on commercial settings, leaf blowers on wheels are an excellent choice.

Ultimately, the best type of leaf blower for you depends on the size of your property, your budget, and your specific needs. By considering these factors and understanding the different types of leaf blowers available, you will make an informed decision and find the perfect tool to keep your outdoor spaces tidy and well-maintained.
